How can I transfer data from the internal hard drive to my external hard drive so I don't lose all of that work?

A. check in device manager under USB devices to insure there isn't a conflict with the flash drive. if there is, click the device with the yeller exclamation point, and select update driver. check windows update first, then check the manufacturer's website. if everything is good there, make sure you are logged on with an account with write privileges to the flash drive.
