I want to transfer data from my desktop to a laptop. Is there a way to connect the laptop to the desktop & use it like a flash drive where I can just copy & paste? Both systems are running XP. Thanks!

Answer
I'd use a USB Flashdrive and copy my data onto it. then use the flashdrive to put it on the other computer.
Easy as pie.

You can also use a crossover cable (a network cable that connects to the network ports of both PCs). Once they are networked, you can just copy and paste info from one computer to the next.

How do I transfer data from one hard drive to another?

Answer
You can connect the next drive as a slave in the same machine and transfer the data.

Your question does not clarify about what is your OS , Desktop or Laptop, is the transfer to be done within 2 disks connected in same machine or not etc.

How can I transfer data from a Blackberry Storm to an iPhone?

Brett Mill

I have a need to transfer data from a Blackberry Storm to an iPhone, with this base information, is it possible to do this transfer without too much difficulty.

Answer
It works!
You can transfer the BB contents to PC or Mac, whatever you use and then sync those to iPhone. Or alternatively, you can also use an iPhone data transfer, that shall definitely help you with that.

Best of luck...

How do I Transfer Data from One Computer to Another over my network?

I have heard that I can transfer data (in this case 70GB of music) from my desktop computer to my laptop computer by way of my wireless network. Does this mean that I can just send them directly from one computer to another? Or do I need to set something up?

If someone could just explain to me how this is done and why it is more efficient than an external harddrive that would be great.

Thank you!

Answer
you should set something up that can transter data from one accout to another anccout!

How to transfer data that is greater than 4gigs to an external hard drive?

Riven

I have a NTFS windows XP system and when I try to transfer data to my external hard drive that is greater than 4 gig I get a message stating there is not enough free disk space. The hard drive has 500gigs and I know I have at least 300gigs free. Does anyone know how to transfer the data without any problems?
I still have over 150gigs of free space in my internal hard drive and my external hard drive is NTFS also.

Answer
Try transferring it using a firewire cable and not the USB one.

So now 2 android smartphones can transfer data like playlists to each other by them simply touching. Is that a feature you really want in a smartphone? I don't like the idea of such an easy transfer of data. I am thinking data you don't want in there could get transferred.

Is it possible to transfer data with just a RJ-45 cable, or do I need to get an expensive USB data transfer cable? I have done it with a wireless network in the past, but it is extremely slow. It took about 24 hours to transfer 15 gigs. What should I do?

Answer
The best way to do this is using a Crossover Ethernet cable. You can plug one end of this onto the network port on one computer, and the other end into the network port on the second computer. This connects the two directly with speeds up to 1gbps (approx. 20 times faster than standard 54mbps wireless)

You will need to set up a shared folder, though, and make sure the wireless connection is DISABLED, as the wireless will automatically override the wired connection :)

I have a desktop, and laptop I wish to transfer data between. I can do this over the internet, but I know that a direct connection would be fastest. How do I do this?

Burning a disc might work, also using a jump drive, but I'd rather a transfer cable, that will work in ALL situations.

Answer
Try either a USB Data Transfer cable or

I am using Windows XP as my operating system, plan to purchase a laptop, but Vista is now the current operating systems in new laptops. Can I transfer data using the usb 2 port between the computers. I could not locate any information on Windows XP help, I find their help usually is not much help at all.

Answer
Go to Worldstart.com Then click on the Software Store,(top left of the page). In this screen, on the lefthand side you'll see Cool Gadgets, click. Then on this screen scroll down until you see Direct LinQ USB 1x Data Transfer Cable, click. Costs 9.95,(believe free shipping), and it works great! We change computers about every six months, and this saves tremendous hours! Don't be fooled by the price, their quality is excellent!

Q. My laptop has Vista, my home computer has xp. So how to transfer data from one to another?

Answer
Several ways.

You could use a USB bridge cable to directly connect the two computers and transfer files the way you move them around between folders.

You could use a USB flash drive if the files aren't that big.

You could use a portable hard drive if you have a lot of large files.

You could burn them onto a CD using your laptop and copy them from the CD using your home computer.
